Pauline's Yarn Monster

A knit obsessed girl in a beautiful world...

Thursday, August 31, 2006

Oh yeah, and I lifelined and ripped that shit back. The knitting is back under my control,
G*D DAMNIT !

Oh My Crap #2

Can you see this ?
I dropped a stitch and kept going to screw another something again last night.
I didn't get a call as promised and spent the day eating Cinnamon Ezekiel toast and sulking.
My lunch was cancelled and no swimming with my pregnant friend.

This morning I finished my cynical review of the dvd's in the swap, and hope NFL doesnt hate the movie now because of me.

I am sending some lace patterns to Gramma Pauline today that Tyson printed at work for her. Someone gifted her some mohair cashmere something and she hasnt a clue what to make with it.

I made a list last night in my stupor of stuff to do today and so far progress has been made. So I at least feel good about that. I think as far as the Noni goes, I am going to pull out my sock circulars, try and pick up as many stitches as possible on it like a life line, and frog to the dark green line below. I need to shower just in case my lunch plans are truly on , and a planned trip to the bitch yarn store to take advantage of the sale.
Knitty if you see this, please advise !!!

5:41 PM Update

Ok, so left the house, mailed the shiz and went to the LYS. They are having a big Tahki sale, and I wasn't so interested in what the selection was.
I got a call that cancelled lunch, so I picked up lunch, and was referred by Sharon to her local insurance agency for a job ^_^
It's across the bridge, but at this point I still havent gotten my call back and I am flipping out about it. I was really hoping to hear from them today.
I cant find a moment of peace in my day that isnt interrupted with a nagging voice in my head demanding to hear my phone ring with the news of when and how much they will give me to come to work.
I am going to take my Dad's advice and give them the benfit of the doubt and call them tomorrow at 2pm. If I dont hear from them 1st.

OH MY CRAP !!!

I still haven't heard back from the job people, and my future moves are IN THEIR HANDS !! (Oh Big Lebowski, I hear you calling me...)

It's driving me batty that the guy hasn't called yet. My lunch was moved to tomorrow and I was planning to see pregnant Erin, but she seems to be out. No swimming and socializing for me. I am tempted to hit the LYS with all the cunty knitting curmudgeouns (they are having a SALE) but I think i'd rather stay in and Noni along to hit my height requirement before succumbing to the rumble in my belly for buying some more yarn. I keep putting off more finger tubes for the Knucks..That is supposed to be such a fast knit, but my selfish proclivities urge me to constantly zombie obsess repeatedly,"Top Down Cardigan....No seaming.....Top Down....My 1st sweater by winter....Mrrrggghhhh...."

Or I could pull out the Bobblicious...Which I dont wanna. Seems I didn't notice a hole I saw in it last time, and don't wanna touch it at all.

Still waiting for that friggin' phone to ring !@##$%%^&!

Interview part 2

Today I went for my 2nd meeting to get the new job I've been targeting. I totally was up at 5 am or so tossing and turning with anxious enery about it !!!
I should have slept. I killed ! I met the guy who would be my manager and we hit it off ! He was really nice, and funny, and hates micromanagement as much as I do !
He promised to negotiate my pay and call me tomorrow with results ! WHOOOOOOOHOOOOOO !!!!

I love it ! Man if this works, it could mean a whole new happiness for me.
It's no secret I wasn't happy at my last job, but this place sounds like it would be perfect for me and not all accounting based ! Can you say RIGHT THE F!@#$K ON ?????

I am meeting with my old co-worker Sharon tomorrow for lunch to catch up on drama, so that should be fun. Plus she's treating ! Wahoo !!

On top of all the goodness, I met with my foot doctor yesterday, and after a few swipes with his knife, he told me the whole foot issue is completely gone !! Done ! No more Efudex, no more Tagamet - Just a lil Neosporin !!! NO MORE DUCT TAPE !
If I was a puppy, I'd be peeing on the floor with excitement !

I plan to chill this afternoon with the kitties and relax. The stress is over.
I am hoping anyhow ;)
Oh yeah amd maybe some more Noni progress, since I have some time free.

I do need to finish my review for the Glittery Girls of the Eyes of desire "pron"
I must confess it's crap. I really cant believe I have to watch both videos, it's so bad. But I guess that is what I signed up for.

Ho - hum...

Success !!!

Yesterday I gave my wonderfully pregnant friend Erin the baby bolero !
EVERYONE LOVED IT !
What a fright it gave me though. I was so stuck on this article i read or something somewhere that when you give a hand knit, don't expect the person getting it to appreciate it like you would (being a knitter, I think getting handknits is special - like most any knitter would !)
The little sweater was passed around and people patted me on the back and were so intrigued !
Made me feel so glad I saved it from the ultimate destruction. I was trimming threads and improvising a crochet border to economize - I was running out of yarn....i snipped one thread and the sweater started to unravel ! Right in the front panel !
I started tying things together and whipped out my crochet hooks.
Here is the final pic :)
Plus a peek down into the heart of a growing Noni !
I am hoping to get another 20 rows out of the Cascade that is left to finish this sucker.

I made it !

3 days of raking and tree work and I'm done. It even rained on us at the last hour. The whole time I was secretly hoping the sky would crack open and pour delightful cool rain down on us. I got my wish - and it was glorious.
There is nothing like pushing yourself all damn day and then getting rained on.

I am one of those people that love rain. The sound, how it smells afterwards....
I rush to the back door to peek at my rain gauge to see how many milliliters it's been..
I missed that about the office job, but nothing compares to be standing in it.
There's something so defiant about saying screw it, I'm going to jump in the puddles and LOVE IT !

My hands and feet are so sore, but I got a check for 200 bucks and I'm more than happy with that. Rent is coming up, and I think I got my last direct deposit today. My severance will be here in another week or so. But I got to make money while waiting, and that's what is comforting.

The Noni is growing in leaps and bounds. Perhaps it's the larger needles, or the fact that they are glittery, but I am flying through this project and will soon be getting back to Tyson's Knucks. Deciding to do all the finger tubes 1st sucks ass. No other way to say it, and loathing the fact that a swatch and 2 thumbs and 2 pinkies are done....

(I secretly want to start another pair of socks.....with my new sock yarn stash from my birthday !!!!) Thanks again Knittykat !

Yay tomorrow is Friday. I may just have to celebrate by going out to lunch..
But Saturday I am hoping to have High Tea with Pencil Skirt ! and not the High from the "whistle -whistle""...From a teapot ! ^_^

HOLY CRAP.....

landscaping is some serious business. Two days down, one more to go, and my hands are black, and I am getting blisters from raking ! It's 90 degrees and we are out in the hot Southern sun scaping it up.

I made a joke yesterday that next week I will be going to the foot dr Monday, and a 2nd interview Tuesday !! and the rest of the week I should do deck work and fiberglass with Tyson's dad to make some more cash ;)
I almost want to call him today and tell him I need work. T is certain that if I tell him I wanna work he'll pay me 10 bucks an hour and start me the very next day.

Funny thing this manual labor stuff.
I like doing a hard day's worth of work. My dad would shit if he knew I was working like I am...
But the greatest thing about it is my renewed respect for the dollar.
I think it's important to step back and review how you wind up taking so much for granted.
Besides, I am getting paid to sweat my ass off, and get some serious exercise at the same time !

Can you even see how dirty my legs are ? or the black crap all over my hands ?
I've been a tough bitch for two days. One more, and a shower for me right now.
I hope I dont pass out again before Tyson gets home.

Yeah it's a bit less than I am used to making for an hour's worth of work, but there's nothing better to make you appreciate how good you really have it !!

Monday.

No word yet, and it looks like I am going to be landscaping for the next 3 days and starting at 7 am. Good Times.

The knitting has been going well since the ladder recovery, and I am going to be taking the Sunday paper for a date to the local Panera. Part of me just wants to kick back, watch Reality Bites, or some Ingmar Bergman. Big extremes there, I know...
Was V. nervous yesterday..Details of the unveiling swirling around, no word from the job, and just death in general... Uncertainty and Death...

If I don't hear from the lovely lady at @#$%^ I am calling her Wednesday.

YB instructed me that I am not to be sitting in the house all day. So I am on a mission to buy caulk to fix the shower, and coffee at panera. But no 1200 calorie orange scone, no matter how badly the orange iced one calls me.

I'm off to find my colored pencils and a tote to drag it with me.
I dont want another day like Friday, of checking my email every 5 minutes.

5 WORDS

Yeah, "the establishment OWES him Snickers"
Circled ads in the paper in purple pencil, having some miso soup, watching Lelaina suffer so I dont have to.

Happy Monday indeed.

OMG !
I DROPPED A STITCH HELP ME ~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I READ AND ATTEMPTED THE DIRECTIONS IN THE SNB AND CANT GET IT TO GO BACK TO KNITTABLE. PLEASE HELP !
NO WORD YET .

Oh.my.goodness.
I am checking my email for a response what feels minute - ly.

Last night I did some more work on the Noni Bag. I have expanded it with direction from the Guru ;) Oh Knittykat, I miss chatting with you all day...

The nice thing is that I got to Glitter alot yesterday and that made me happy.
Also had amazing sushi last night in Hyde Park.
Good Food Great friends, and my future husband (eventually) across the table from me.
Knit Pic.....

(oh yeah and SOAP tonight or bust !)

I've also included a pic of our outside cat that likes to sleep in our backyard and under the butterfly bushes. He's very cute, and I caught a pic of him napping by the hot peppers :) I call him Pretty Pretty, as in the David Cross comedy bit...

Stone Cold Foxy

Yeah so I have updated the Glitterati this morning 1st thing of the status of the Unemployment/Awaiting approval from said job interview.

I love the Glitterati. I feel so lame I havent been a major poster lately due to the firewall, and trying to make enough Knit objects to show them I really am CRAFTY !
Something tells me they understand.

(Oh damn the coffee just ran out)
YB says he is totally sure I will get the job. It's nice to have a cheerleader ;)
In house !

So today is an at home holiday.
I have a small list of errands I must complete...
Get Rx cat food for the babies
Mail Knitty's package - I am an asshole.
Get duct tape for my foot...long story...
Go to yoga at 545
SNAKES ON A MUTHAF***N PLANE !!

Norman is yelling at me, he wants to sit in my lap while I type LOL !

I'm taking an inventory of sorts I guess.
I'm thankful for all the people who make my life as lucky as I see it.
It's not just me, but all of the people I know that make me who I am.
This job thing is possiblythe best thing that could have happened.
I did hate working for F**kway, and the fact that if you werent Korean or related to the owners, or have a penis - you will never be respected or appreciated.
My old boss (she's old now ;) said just that to me as we did the walk of release to the elevator.

I grew up the one "white" jewish girl in a sea of all kinds of cultures and ethnicities. Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Phillipino, Greek, Italian, Polish, Lebanese - You name it ! Trading my peanut butter and honey sandwich quarters for Futomaki Rolls and Felafel ROCKED !
It was an amazing thing to be a minority among so many cultures. I think of those kids often and try to google them to see what they are up to.
But double-paned and ethnic origin glass ceilings are not for me.

Fingers crossed, I hope this new job is mine, and I can rock it !!!!

Here's some cuteness...

Laid Off.

Yep, Today I was laid off from my job. All in the name of downsizing and sending my job to Chicago. Yes it wasn't any secret I wasn't happy at !@#$way, but I was hoping to leave on my own terms - not theirs. I had just in recent months reconciled my angst for the way things were done around there, and now it's over. 4 years and 8 months - poof- Over.
I am still shocked about it.

The good news is that I have an interview tomorrow. So instead of saying,"I am looking for work because I just am not happy at my current job anymore" I can say, "My position was downsized and sent to another office in the Midwest".
Let me just say that I feel relieved that I am getting a severance package - which I totally did not expect, plus lunch - repleat with a Stoli up martini (dirty, shaken - not stirred and some yummy shrimp and chicken with my former boss.

I am not a big believer in things happening for a reason, or karma, or destiny - let alone parking lot angels that help you find a spot. BUT - Last friday I saw an old employee from the old days at work, and he asked if I was still looking for a job. SO I CALLED HIM IMMEDIATELY ! Hence the interview tomorrow.

If all doesn't work out, (which I am just hinged and hoping it will) I have a tentative job working under the table doing tree work with some friends who own a lawn business next week for 3 days ^_^

I still have my health, and my boyfriend - and hopefully this will excuse me from having to travel home to be with my whole crazy New York family this weekend.
I don't need to see them for a 15 minute prayer and hours of jewish guilt or drama.
I just got laid off for CRYING OUT LOUD !

In Knitting News.....
The Noni has been cast on, and I am going to attempt to do it without constant questions answered by the lovely Knittykat... I hope it turns out right ;)

Gotta get some rest, I have a 1/2 day left to work, which is total crap but I will do it with grace and inner poise - and then my interview.

If any Glitterati are reading this -
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIBES AND GOOD WISHES ! ^_^ I WILL SURVIVE !!!

Revelations

Ok I know I should be reporting about my birthday celebration and saturday hangover, but I want to take a sec to discuss Mrs. Tiggywinkle. T and I have just been discussing details of Beatrix potter stories from childhood.
He insisted that Farmer McGregor catches Peter Rabbit, hangs him up and skins him. Now who the hell would write a children's story like that ????
But just take a moment and think about how freakin' awesome Beatrix potter is ??
They even have a knitting book of patterns to make Potter themed stuff ! Look !!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0723234574/ref=wl_it_dp/102-9990842-8497715?%5Fencoding=UTF8&colid=JQDCWJO3OLYC&coliid=I1ALKL571QBABS&v=glance&n=283155

My birthday was awesome.
I partied like a rockstar and had some of my favorite champagne, Veuve Cliquot.... MMMmmm
But boy was I hung over the next day !
Yoga Sunday was amazing, and I thought despite being the living dead the day before I rocked it !
I got yoga classes, and MAC limited edition swag, a Gift Certificate to a restaurant i really love...But I scored Sunday ^_^
T got me Tekken 5 and Shadow of the Colossus for PS2, Delicatessen on dvd, Jaques Pepin's healthy cookbook, a Big Santoku Knife and tonight I used it to chop veggies and etc for my new Cuisinart Electric Fondue Pot !!! I also got a fm transmitter for my Nano :-)

So yeah I got spoiled ;-) and it was just wonderful...On top of all that, he made me a "Batan March of chocolate ice cream/brownie/oreo cake :) and just in time for the communists making their raid on the vacation house. Great Birthday weekend, and I think I am looking pretty kickass at my age...Aw Yeah.

Friday - Party Time !!!

So in case no one knew, It's my birthday this weekend - I am never really all that subtle about it...
But I got a cake at work today ! The wonderful woman I work with, yeah there's just one besides me in this office, got me a cake and all the boys dove into it :-)
The birthday tingle is starting !!! YAY !

I feel my birthday is a personal national holiday..but enough of that for now ^_^

Tonight I am getting glammed out and having Tapas with my gang of fabulous friends, and then moving on to a rooftop lounge for cocktails afterwards. I need the glitter and dressing up - I miss it !!!
Saturday I plan to see the new "girls speluking and kicking some monster ass" film - The Descent.
Then Sunday - YOGA ! and a relaxing birthday / and also year and a half celebration of being with the wonderful and amazing Young Boy.

Much better than what was going to happen - going to see all my family on my exact birthday in the cemetary to view my grandfather's tombstone unveiling......

Joy for all, that is next weekend.

In knitting/movie watching news, last night after a great Mysore (ashtanga) Yoga practice with Eric(my yogi) and Rick(my other yogi friend) I took an awesome hot shower and did the pinky fingers of the Knucks while watching the new remastered copy of Putney Swope, by Robert Downey Sr.
(father of Robert Downey Jr. - who is also in A Scanner Darkly - WHICH IS FUCKING AMAZING !! Go see it if you havent ! Linklater has a super hit with this one..I want to see it again and we went two days ago !)

I am hoping at some point to cast on for my Noni bag, and to try and get a beat on to catch up with Knittykat. I think subconsiously the reason why I haven't sent her package is because I a) keep gathering goodies to send with it, b) I want to catch up to her on the project ! - We knitalong, and she is done in bionic time !!!

I will try and get some pics at the celebrations over the weekend :)
Maybe try and include a headstand or something ;)

***muah !!!***

Progress Report...
I was almost done with the 1st thumb, when my hand model complained it wasn't snug enough.
I ripped out the thumb and redid it. So here is a pic of my 1st thumb, amidst Knittykat's Mac & Cheese, and gauge directions, one of many pages ;)
(I actually panicked last night and had YB translate the SNB directions for me.)

I have been debating whether or not to bring this up or not, but I think I will.
Mel Gibson.
I just have to say the BAC limit was .08, and his was .12...... That is not DRUNK !
The tequila bottle in his car - MUST HAVE BEEN FULL !
And now we have celebs like Jodie Foster (not jewish) and Patrick Swayze ((ding-dong) not jewish again) defending him ?????
Ok so by culture I am Jewish and I think he knows his career is over and I hope it goes spiralling down the G-D Damn TOILET ! (I'd say GOD DAMN, but I don't want to offend anyone..)

Now on a lighter, yet actually quite serious note I just want to say not only has the Mel backing lost massive Dirty Dancing points with me, but actually the hideous plastic surgery is going to cost Patrick the RoadHouse ! My teen love affair dies today.

Swatch ?

So I didnt't swatch as planned on Saturday, I actually started it today :)
I must admit I think I have relaxed because the sz 5 needles I chose to make my swatch for the Knucks isnt like the bulletproof swatch I made for my 1st pair of socks :) I really like the way the Knitpicks Merino is working up, and I may wind up making a pair for myself if all continues to go well.

Last night I went out to dinner at a fantastic place called Circles with YB and an old work friend. It was really nice to get dressed up and go out with 2 guys in my company :)))) I was stone cold pimpin' LOL
I had a delicious Thai style grouper with a garlic chili sauce topped with mushrooms, peppers and onions with a pretty mound of jasmine rice on the side...So yummy !

Later on we went for a drink and to see Talledega Nights with Will Ferrell and it was hilarious.
But the really nice thing was we went for a drink before the movie at Wine Exchange and I got to see two wonderful people from my clubbing past that I haven't seen in ages. It was so nice to see them and know they were still around.Plus it's always warming to have someone look so happy to see me ! So now I can gossip about the old days of dark wave with some old friends ^_^

Still swatching - Hope everyone had a lovely weekend !

(oh god - one week until my birthday >:-P)

Check it out !
I did the second sleeve and seamed the entire thing together..
I must confess I hate seaming with a passion.
I don't know if I am just impatient or what - but this also explain why the bobblicious hasn't been finished either. I cant stand it..and I improvised a few things whilst doing it.

I have been clenching my jaw the whole time and sighing.... LOL
This is what happens when you catch the ICK from your significant other.
I told him that I should cane him like the kid who spraypainted graffitti in Singapore a few years back for getting me sick. But here is the baby bolero -pre crochet border, as I dont seem to have a small enough hook to pull it off yet.

Tomorrow I swatch for the Knucks !!

Bolero Update - and Tv Party !!! :)

If anyone is reading this and wants to know, the 1st sleeve of the bolero is done, the second one has been started, and last night I watched a great documentary about a show called Glenn O'Brien's Tv Party. This was a public access show that started in the 70's and went on through about to 1983. Guests on the show regularly were Blondie, Jean Michel Basquiat, and was partially hosted by Fab 5 Freddy of Yo Mtv Raps fame. There were cameos of Mick Jones from the Clash, Robert Mapplethorpe, George Clinton, Klaus Nomi, and many more. I grew up as a 70's baby and felt a real connection with the nostalgia of the show..(My dad worked in NYC and we would cross over from NJ all the time to hang out in the Lower East Side and Soho while I grew up.) It was really awesome, so if you care about punk, and art - Try and find the documentary ! ( Yb thinks it's simply called Tv Party)

Also, speaking of art, I have been reading about Ron Mueck.
I cant seem to upload an image right now, but here's a link to see what he does.
I think he is possibly my favorite artist right now ^_^

    Gramma ^_^

Ok so since this is a Knitting Blog, why not take a moment to pimp my grandma right ?
meanwhile I bet the internet is like a whole crazy idea to her, after all she told me once pasta was dairy...Ok I am getting sidetracked. This is the woman who introduced me to knitting. in this photo, she is actually showing me how to recover a dropped stitch on some armwarmers I made out of Noro :)
She would probably kill me because she doesn't have her make up on.. but she doesnt have a computer, so I think I am safe.

The interesting thing is that the women at my LYS HATE ME. Now I have discussed this with Knittykat at great length, but part of me questions this. If I walked into a LYS, and say my gramma was there, she'd probably hate me too. I dont know if they think I'm snobby or just looking at knitting as a new fad(in their eyes), but I would like to think I know my shit quite a bit.
Enough to knit for almost 4 years !
I heard a Cast On podcast that actually addressed this quite a bit and i gotta say - Seasoned ladies of the Fiber - Look,
*Knitting is not a fad to me
*I need to be knitting, it's mandatory, not a choice
*You can all pretend to hate me or think whatever the fuck you want
*Kiss my ass I am not going anywhere !!!!!

So cut the shitty attitude, if I am not hanging out at the shop - it is because you are a bunch of catty bitches, so hand me my cascade and drop the TUDE !

My grandma likes me fine, and so she's all the matriarchial influence I need.
Plus all my "crafty girls I chat it up with on the internet".

Things I really like about my grandma
*she knit me slippers, dresses, jackets, and a kick ass afghan that I still covet
    *she loves butterflies
*she can cook the best rugelach on the planet
*she tells me I'm a shit if we haven't spoken in a really long time
*I cant have a conversation with her without hearing things like "so what's gonna be with you", or calling me "darling" at the end of the call
*that when i show her my knitting, she immediately points out the mistakes and tells me she can fix it
*she used to smuggle banana bread out of Seniors for me, a buffet she used to take me to on Kings Highway in Brooklyn
    * She has an infectious laugh that far surpasses mine and you cant help but laugh when you hear it
*No matter how much I tease her - she still loves me and says I am her favorite ;)

I gotta get back to watching sharks maul people and knit up some baby sleeves ^_^
